GagaOOLala partners with TAICCA to showcase new queer stories for 2022
This year, GagaOOLala, the largest LGBTQ+ streaming service from Asia, launched its signature ‘Queer Up The Volume’ project, an anthology of 10 stories, 10 songs, and 10 music videos demonstrating the strength and resilience of queer love. The project generated such buzz and resonation among the public that it managed to attract over 100 investment partners from 20 countries at the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) on November 2 and the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCFF), hosted by TAICCA, the Taiwan Creative Content Agency, on November 12, 2021.
At its ‘LGBTQ + BL Online Originals Showcase’, GagaOOLala announced several planned sequels to its most successful originals from the anthology including Papa & Daddy, Fragrance of the First Flower, and Light. The streaming service is now open for submissions and looking for creators for the second season of ‘Queer Up The Volume’. In addition, GagaOOLala has also announced a brand-new, highly ambitious project titled ‘4 seasons of BL’, for which it is actively seeking collaborative partners.
GOL STUDIOS is an LGBTQ+ BL content creation center under GagaOOLala, that has produced over 50 original productions under its belt to date. Based in Taiwan, the studio advocates international collaborations and has been working with partners from around the world, including the Philippines, Japan, the USA, and Europe to create more life-changing and inspiring queer films. Some of its more successful titles include the Taiwan-Philippines co-production film Tale of the Lost Boys; Five Lessons in Happiness, a short film anthology that stars several famous Taiwanese talents, and Present Still Perfect, a Thai BL romance film.
In 2021, the streaming service launched its ‘Queer Up The Volume’ project, bringing together a team of acclaimed Taiwanese and international directors and artists and singers to create 10 original queer features each with their respective theme song and music video. For this, GagaOOLala has produced and collaborated in the making of many successful queer films, series, and shorts from the anthology including Asia’s first gay parenting series, Papa & Daddy, the lesbian/cyborg romance short film, U Loves You, The Immeasurable, drag queen short film Best Sisters Forever, the record-breaking BDSM short Light, and the first-ever Thailand-Taiwan co-production BL series, Call It What You Want. One of its most impactful fields is BL (boy’s love), where several of its productions have been all the rage with online communities across the globe. Elsewhere, even its lesbian mini-series Fragrance of the First Flower was invited to international film festivals in France, Japan, and Germany, well before it was released.
Earlier this year, when GagaOOLala attended the Tokyo International Film Festival’s Marketplace for Film and TV (TIFFCOM), it held an online LGBTQ + BL Originals Showcase, followed by another one at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCFF), hosted by TAICCA, the Taiwan Creative Content Agency.
Combined, the two events attracted over hundreds of partners from world-renowned film companies across 20 countries and regions, including Facebook, NBCUniversal, Japan’s TV TOKYO and WATCHA, Korea’s LYD, The Philippines’ GMA, Singapore’s mm2, Thailands’ Artop Production, and India’s GoQuest Media, all of whom showed high levels of interest in LGBTQ+ and BL content.
The LGBTQ + BL showcase presented sequels to some of the platform’s most popular original content which are scheduled for production next year, including season 2 and 3 of the gay family show Papa& Daddy, season 2 of the lesbian mini-series Fragrance of the First Flower, the series version of the acclaimed BL short Light, and a brand-new, heavy-weight original project titled ‘Four seasons of BL’.
As one of the world’s leading online LGBTQ+ streaming services, GagaOOLala, today, has amassed over 1.2 million members and is available across over 235 countries in the world. It is the largest LGBTQ+ streaming service as well as the first Taiwanese OTT service to have launched globally. In its quest to broaden its horizons, GagaOOLala is now calling for more collaborative partners, creators, and fantastic queer stories to tell. The prospect is that both Taiwanese and international parties would come together and generate multi-faceted revenue streams from all fronts, including content creation, IP sales, international marketing, distribution, cross-industry collaborations, advertisements, e-commerce, music, and publishing.
