Taiwanese streaming platform GagaOOLala has signed an agreement with the world’s largest advertising agency, GroupM, providing more advertising possibilities to LGBTQ-friendly brands. Meanwhile, the global streamer will diversify its global SVOD (Subscription-based Video on Demand) offering by implementing AVOD (Advertising-based Video on Demand) services in selected territories, increasing its potential reach.

Taiwan’s first global streaming platform has become one of the key Asian players in the niche streaming market since its launch back in 2017. In addition to providing one of the world’s largest LGBTQ+ streaming libraries, GagaOOLala is a queer production powerhouse with 50+ originals in the past few years. Now, the platform is taking the next step to widen its reach, becoming Asia's first LGBTQ+ platform to implement AVOD services, a type of content that, just some years ago, was unthinkable for brands to get behind in this part of the world.

GroupM is currently the largest advertising agency in the world. Founded in 2003 in New York City, it is part of the British media agency WPP plc, that also manages other key technological, media and marketing subsidiaries like Mindshare, Wavemaker, and Essence Global. Their brand portfolio include: Ford, Nike, Far EasTone Telecommunications, Unicharm, GSK, HSBC, Mazda, Standard Foods, OSIM, Colgate, Sony Mobile, Mercedes-Benz, Taishin International Bank, Jetstar, and many more. Regarding their collaboration with GagaOOLala, Alice Yu, Chief Transformation Officer, GroupM Taiwan, Said, “Partnership with GagaOOLala is the first initiative in the region to demonstrate the company's commitment on DE&I. We are proud to support GagaOOLala, a Taiwan home-grown video streaming platform, to increase awareness of their good quality content and support their cause to improve the livelihood of LGBTQ communities around the world.”

Jay Lin, CEO of Portico Media, the company behind GagaOOLala, welcomed the new tools and possibilities this collaboration with GroupM will bring to the platform: “We believe that GroupM’s vast experience provides brands with allround marketing solutions that will now also benefit from our platform’s reach within the queer community. With the increase in visibility for the LGBTQ+ over the years, the same can be said for the community’s purchasing power. In addition, due to the current pandemic, many daily economic transactions have shifted online. I believe GagaOOLala online advertising will be the perfect bridge between brands and consumers, and be a new milestone for the pink economy.” Besides opening new opportunities for the brands GroupM works with, GagaOOLala can also help brands localize and target different regions, thanks to its global presence, maximizing the effect of their marketing investment.

Both Portico Media and GroupM hope this collaboration can bring a more social-conscious and sustainable marketplace that benefits both LGBTQ-friendly brands that can now find their audience and LGBTQ+ consumers now aware of which brands are more supportive of LGBTQ+ rights.
